Time travel

Minsang magsulat ako tungkol sa isang sentimental na bakasyon, ganito ko ito winakasan: “Bakit hindi maaaring bitbitin ang magagandang tao at bagay sa buhay ko ngayon, at isama sila pabalik sa nakalipas na ipinaaalala ng lahat ng ito?” Sino ba ang ayaw makabalik sa nakalipas? May mga naganap sa ating buhay na nais nating balikan at muling maranasan. Mayroon din namang kung maaari ay nais nating baguhin.

Isang television drama mula sa Japan, ang Proposal Daisakusen, ang kamakailan ay pinanood namin ng kasintahan ko. Nakakaadik kaya’t pinagpuyatan namin ang kuwentong ito tungkol kay Iwase Ken (Yamashita Tomohisa), isang lalaking ilang ulit na bumalik sa panahon upang makamit ang pag-ibig ni Yoshida Rei (Nagasawa Masami), ang matalik na kaibigang lihim niyang itinatangi.

Second issue of the Philippine Journalism Review

The second issue of the Philippine Journalism Review (PJR), the only refereed journal in Asia devoted to journalism concerns and issues, is now available, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) has announced.

Now an annual, the Philippine Journalism Review, or PJR, used to be a press monitoring publication in magazine format. That function has been taken over by the monthly PJR Reports, which CMFR also publishes.

The first issue of the reformatted PJR appeared in 2007 and was launched during the awarding ceremonies of the Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Excellence in Journalism that year.

Ely Buendia, isinugod sa ospital!

08/31/08 12:58 am update: In a text message to GMANews.TV, Dok Sergio, bassist of Buendia’s new band Pupil, said: “Ely is fine. Don’t worry.”

Ayon sa mga balita sa text, sa Twitter at Plurk, at sa GMANews.tv, isinugod daw sa ospital si Ely Buendia matapos ang unang bahagi ng Eraserheads reunion concert sa Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

“We regret to inform you that we have to cut the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to hospital because of emotional and physical stress he is experiencing,” ang pahayag ng kapatid ni Ely na si Lali sa mga pumunta sa concert, ayon sa report ng GMANews.tv.

Ayon sa ulat ng Philippine Entertainment Portal, sa Makati Medical Center dinala si Ely.

Noong Huwebes, pumanaw ang ina ni Ely na si Gng. Lisette Buendia o Lola Titing sa mga kaibigan ni Ely.

Noong Enero 2007, na-ospital din si Ely matapos atakin sa puso habang tumutugtog siya kasama ang kanyang bandang Pupil sa Laguna.

Mga bayani at mga nagpapakabayani

Marahil dahil katatapos lang nating gunitain ng Araw ni Senador Ninoy Aquino at ng Araw ng mga Bayani, tungkol sa mga bayani ang bagong article ng guro kong si Prof. Luis Teodoro — na kakapagdiwang lang ng kanyang kaarawan. Ganito ang bahagi ng isinulat niya:

Heroes all in the public mind and eye, what Rizal, Luna, Bonifacio, and Aquino seem to have had in common was how far they were from the perfection people assume heroes to be.

But there’s another sense in which they seemed to have been so much like the rest of us, and it’s in their having shared the same impatience, anger and outrage over injustice and misery many people do experience.
